Our History
In 1976, Johnny Menninga left a secure, lucrative position with one of the nation's largest contractors to found a new company. He and his father Arvan - who was also experienced in electrical contracting - pooled their resources and knowledge to create Menninga Electric.
From the start, the company focused on serving schools, hospitals, industry, and government agencies. Its first project was a school addition in Oskaloosa, Iowa.
Already in its first year Menninga Electric became an ABC Merit Shop Contractor, with a construction management team and multi-skilled craft persons to meet the needs of clients.
In its second year, the company incorporated with Johnny serving as president. Soon the corporation was completing large projects for Pella Rolscreen Company (now Pella Corporation) and the VA Medical Center in Knoxville, Iowa. It went on to take on all appropriate work the business community offered, soon emerging as a capable and reputable electrical contractor.
In 1998, Menninga Electric, Inc., merged with IES (Integrated Electrical Services, Inc.,), a national leader in providing and consolidating electrical contracting and maintenance for commercial, industrial, and residential markets.
Now, with several locations across the state, Menninga Electric, Inc., serves all of Iowa. Because the teamwork of the dedicated men and women of Menninga Electric, Inc., has consistently produced high-quality construction projects on time and within budget, Menninga Electric, Inc., is now clearly an Iowa leader in the Electrical Construction Industry.
